Unbeaten Salisbury squeaks past Wesley

Junior Richard Mann's 96-yard kickoff return for a touchdown with 4:35 remaining yesterday lifted No. 20 Salisbury to a 22-19 homecoming victory over Wesley before 3,123 in an Atlantic Central Conference game.

The Sea Gulls improved to 8-0 overall, 2-0 in the ACFC, while Wesley fell to 4-4, 1-2.

In a game that featured five lead changes, including four in the second half, Mann's touchdown came 18 seconds after Wesley had regained the lead on Fred Edwards' 2-yard touchdown run.

After a Sea Gulls fumble, the Wolverines took the lead on their first play of the third quarter, as Curtis Long hit Joe Able for a 22-yard touchdown and a 13-9 advantage.

McDaniel 34, William Paterson 0: The 19th-ranked Green Terror (7-1) rushed for 259 yards and limited the host Pioneers (1-7) to 143 yards of total offense.

It was the second shutout of the season for McDaniel, which held William Paterson to 26 yards on 11 carries.

Johns Hopkins 17, Dickinson 10: Sophomore running back Adam Cook rushed for a career-high 174 yards and one touchdown and the host Blue Jays (6-2, 3-1) pounded out 252 yards on the ground in the Centennial Conference win over the Red Devils (3-5, 1-3).

After a scoreless third quarter, the Blue Jays drove 71 yards in 10 plays and freshman T.J. Lyons finished the drive with a 9-yard touchdown for the decisive score.

Frostburg State 24, Westminster 17: Trailing for much of the game, the Bobcats (5-3) got a 9-yard touchdown pass from Grant Burrough to Roy Olson with 3:28 left in the game to beat the Titans at Greenway Avenue Stadium in Cumberland.

Burrough, who was 28 of 51 for 346 yards and three touchdowns, also hit Olson for a 7-yard touchdown early in the third, making the score 14-10.

Fayetteville State 13, Bowie State 7: Eric Blackwell returned a tipped pass 33 yards for a touchdown with 1:56 left in the game to give the 21st-ranked Broncos (8-1, 6-0) the victory over the visiting Bulldogs (5-4, 4-2) in a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association game

The Bulldogs can still win the conference's Eastern Division title next week with a home victory over Virginia State.
