Police say man found after house fire was victim of homicide

CATONSVILLE -- The death of a 59-year-old Catonsville man, whose body was found in his home Friday night after a one-alarm fire, has been ruled a homicide.

Michael Allen Ugiansky, of the 1300 block of Hilton Terrace, was found in the back of the house, fire officials said. An autopsy found yesterday that he died of blunt force trauma, according to Baltimore County police.

The cause of the fire and where it started are under investigation.

In Baltimore City

Two men hospitalized after being shot in head

One man was listed in critical condition and another was in serious condition after being shot in the head in separate incidents yesterday, city police said.

One victim, who was not identified, was sitting in a car in the 3300 block of Belair Road about 2:30 a.m. when someone shot him twice in the head, police said. He was listed in critical condition at Johns Hopkins Hospital.

The other victim, also unidentified, was found in the 100 block of E. Baltimore St. about 3 a.m. with a gunshot wound to the head. He was listed in serious condition at Maryland Shock Trauma Center, police said.

In Harford County

Woman, man are stabbed in unrelated incidents

EDGEWOOD -- A 46-year-old Edgewood woman was stabbed in her home in the 1600 block of Candlewood Court early yesterday, a Harford County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman said.

Darla G. Shepard was taken to Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where she was listed in serious but stable condition last night.

In an unrelated incident yesterday, Harford County deputies arrested Vanessa M. Holden, 49, of Edgewood on charges of stabbing her husband, Charles H. Holden, 35, in their home in the 500 block of Jamestown Court about 10:30 a.m. after a dispute, police said.
