Women's commission seeks nominations for its hall of fame

The Howard County Commission for Women is seeking nominations of outstanding women for induction into its Women's Hall of Fame in March, Women's History Month.

The Women's Hall of Fame is in its seventh year. Those who excel in community activism or business, improve the lives of others and serve as role models are recognized. Candidates must be Howard County natives or residents of the county for at least 10 consecutive years.

Nomination forms are available at public libraries and Howard County Department of Citizen Services, 6751 Columbia Gateway Drive, Columbia. Completed forms should be mailed by Nov. 15 to Commission for Women, P.O. Box 348, Simpsonville 21150-0348.

Christmas in April taking applications for help

Christmas in April in Howard County is accepting applications from homeowners who need assistance with home repairs and maintenance projects.

Homeowners who are elderly, disabled or who have a low income may qualify for free assistance.

Chorus director, volunteers sought at Office on Aging

The Howard County Office on Aging is seeking volunteers.

A chorus director is needed from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesdays at Florence Bain Senior Center, and musical performers are needed for Senior Center Plus sites.

Computer-entry help is needed at locations throughout the county.

Christ Church Link offers resources for needy

Christ Church Link, an information and referral service for Howard County residents in need, links callers with agencies that provide help with housing, emergency shelter, utility turnoffs, evictions, food, employment, clothing, transportation and other needs.

Ulman fund to sponsor support-group sessions

The Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults will sponsor free, professionally led support groups for young cancer survivors and their loved ones.

The groups, for ages 15 to 35, will meet at 5:30 p.m. Mondays, starting this month. One group will be for cancer survivors; another will be for young family members and friends. Psychotherapists Susan Jacobson and Anita Millison will lead the discussions.
