IN ITS Friday endorsement for Maryland attorney general, The Sun erroneously said Jeffrey N. Pritzker was the Republican candidate.
In fact, Edwin MacVaugh won the GOP primary and is facing incumbent J. Joseph Curran Jr. on Tuesday.
Mr. MacVaugh is a criminal defense attorney and a thoughful candidate. But he insists the state's gun laws are too strict, and says he would reverse Mr. Curran's efforts to beef up enforcement.
That makes little sense. Mr. Curran's interest in cracking down on illegal gun ownership is an asset, not a liability. It also reflects his grasp of reality: Cities like Baltimore are ravaged by gun violence.
The Sun regrets the error involving Mr. MacVaugh, but stands behind its endorsement of Mr. Curran.
