Karamanos wins seven races at Laurel, including Waya aboard Lily's Affair

THE BALTIMORE SUN

Jockey Horatio Karamanos dominated the 11-race card at Laurel Park yesterday by riding seven winners, including a pick-up mount on Eugene Ford's Lily's Affair in the $50,000 Waya Stakes.

Lily's Affair, who had been cross-entered in the co-feature, the Ta Wee Stakes, led the 1 1/16th-mile race from start to finish, ending up the winner by four lengths over post-time favorite Your Out.

Weekend Kaper finished third. The winner finished the race in 1 minute, 43.4 seconds over a fast main track and paid $20.60.

"This horse broke very well and made the lead easily," Karamanos said. "She relaxed going down the backstretch. No one challenged me until the top of the stretch, but she just opened up and finished really strong. "

Karamanos also won the third race aboard Tundra Road ($5.20), the fourth race atop Seattle Socialite ($10.20), the fifth race astride Lethimrun ($3.40), the sixth race on Two Times A Lady ($16), the eighth on Domi Rider ($7) and the 11th aboard Goldenalden's Card ($18.40).

Karamanos' seven wins tied the track record set by Chuck Baltazar on Dec. 15, 1969.
