Owens campaign holds lead over Bissett in fund raising

THE BALTIMORE SUN

Anne Arundel County Executive Janet S. Owens has raised roughly $582,000 in her re-election bid, about six times the amount collected by her Republican rival, Phillip D. Bissett.

Campaign finance reports filed Friday, the last filing date before the election Nov. 5, show that Owens has raised about $80,000 since the end of August. Her campaign treasurer, William F. Chaney, said Friday that Owens, a Millersville Democrat, has $118,000 in the bank.

Bissett, who announced his candidacy in April, reported total receipts worth about $96,000. He has raised about $40,000 since the previous filing date, Aug. 30. He has about $8,000 cash on hand.

Bissett said he was not overly concerned. "We have enough to do what we need to do," he said Friday. "I have said before that money is not going to buy happiness in this election."
