Hearing scheduled on farmland preservation

The Carroll County commissioners will hold a public hearing at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in Room 300A, Carroll County Office Building, to consider a petition to establish an agricultural preservation district and purchase an option for an agricultural preservation easement.

The petition is from John E. Weber and Elizabeth B. Weber for 62.557 acres at 3845 Millers Station Road, Manchester, for the preservation district, and the purchase of an easement option on the property for $83,180.

Action to purchase the option for the easement may be taken 15 days from the date of notice.

The County Office Building is at 225 N. Center St., Westminster.

Farm Service Agency seeks committee members

The Carroll County Farm Service Agency administers programs at county and local levels.

Eligible producers elect FSA committees to make decisions on commodity price support loans and payments; establishment of allotments, yields and marketing quotas; farmer loans and conservation programs; incentive, indemnity payments for some crops; and other farmer disaster assistance.

The FSA committee is seeking candidates from the LAA 3 area, which includes Taneytown, Keymar, Union Bridge and New Windsor. Eligible producers include farm owners, operators, tenants and sharecroppers of legal voting age.

Nomination forms must be signed by the nominee and submitted by Oct. 28. Forms are available from the FSA office at 1004 Littlestown Pike, Westminster.

Ballots will be mailed to eligible voters Nov. 19. Completed ballots must be returned by Dec. 2. Elected members and alternates will take office Jan. 1.
