Bailey, Frederick Claude

FREDERICK CLAUDE BAILEY, 95, formerly of Baltimore, Maryland, died October 15, 2002. He was born March 4, 1907 to Margaret (nee McSweeney) and Frederick Bailey. He worked for Crown, Cork and Seal Co., Inc. and Koppers Company as a pattern maker, specializing in small dimension machine parts and was an active member of the Pattern Makers League of North America. After retirement he volunteered extensively with Meals-on-Wheels in Maryland. He sculpted birds from wood, exhibiting these in craft shows throughout DelMarVa. He also was an accomplished cabinet maker and enjoyed traveling and fishing. He was preceded in death by his soulmate and wife of 50 yrs, Dorothy (nee Frazier) and two sisters, Mildred Hartley and Elizabeth Rokos. Survivors include his daughter, Dr. Claudia Bailey of Fayetteville, AR and nephews in Fl, MD and NC. A Mass will be said at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Fayetteville at 8:15 P.M. on Thursday, October 24. Memorials may be made to Habitat for Humanity, PO Box 6439, Americus, GA 31709-9952. On September 23, 2002, LOUIS F. LOU PHOEBUS, died in Melbourne, Florida. He was born on July 7, 1929 in Baltimore and spent his formative years in Lauraville. His education was received at Garrett Heights Elementary, Hamilton Junior High, Baltimore Polytechnic Institute (1947) and University of Maryland (1951). He played football for Arcadia and Poly and was a member of the wrestling team at College Park. He retired from Montgomery Ward after 31 years spent in various managerial positions. Two of the stores, Monroe Street and Gaithersburg, in which he served were in Maryland. His survivors are his wife Glorice of Melbourne Beach, Florida; two daughters Brenda Richter of Grapevine, Texas and Pamela Curry of Conway, Arizona; one son Scott of Boyds, Maryland; eight grandchildren and a brother Taft R. of Timonium. He was a member of the team that provided on sight calibration of electronic test and measurement equipment used by APL Research Vessels at Diania, FL. and test support for missile tests in White Sands, New Mexico.
