Mules show off in Powellville

THE BALTIMORE SUN

Perhaps you've been to a horse show. But have you ever been to a mule show? The Delmarva Coon Hunters Association presents its 25th annual mule show Sunday in Powellville. The event features mules performing various tasks, runs, jumps and more. Competitions include mules racing around barrels, weaving through poles, performing on command and running through an obstacle course. Winners (mule and mule rider pairs) will receive trophies and ribbons. Visitors are encouraged to bring their own chairs for up-close views of the events. Food will be available.

Here's a little background on the mule: The mule is a hybrid, the offspring of a female horse and a male donkey, and cannot reproduce. Mules are durable, dependable transportation for hunters, as they are able to lug heavy equipment for hours, cross water and jump fences (up to four feet high) without a running approach.

The mule show runs 10 a.m. until around 4 p.m. Sunday at the Delmarva Coon Hunters Association club grounds, Ben Davis Road, Powellville, Wicomico County. Free. Call 410-835-2011 or 302-238-7337.
