2001 Rosemount Estate Chardonnay-Semillon, Southeastern Australia ($9). This 50-50 blend of semillon and chardonnay displays the liveliness and balance that is often lacking in 100 percent chardonnay Australian wines. It offers an abundance of fruit flavors -- lemon, peach, tropical fruit and figs. The breezy acidity makes it suitable for pairing with a wide variety of foods -- from salmon to fried chicken to spicy Asian and creole cuisine. The quality far exceeds the price.
