Isabel H. Pears, 90, homemaker, educator

Isabel H. Pears, a homemaker and former educator, died of an abdominal obstruction Oct. 8 at St. Joseph Medical Center. She was 90.

Mrs. Pears, who had lived at the Edenwald retirement community in Towson, was born Isabel Hartman in Pittsburgh. She was raised in Wilkinsburg, Pa., and earned a bachelor's degree from Oberlin College in 1933.

Mrs. Pears taught school for several years in Forest Hills, Pa., before her 1946 marriage to Thomas Clinton Pears III. He died in 1998.

A resident of Pittsburgh for many years, Mrs. Pears moved to Baltimore in the 1990s. She enjoyed collecting books and writing book reviews.

She was a member of Babcock Presbyterian Church, 8240 Loch Raven Blvd., where a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Mrs. Pears is survived by a son, Thomas Clinton Pears IV of Winchester, Mass.; a sister, Jane Hartman of Towson; and two grandchildren.
