Dorothea K. Lanier, 88, engineering firm officer

Dorothea K. Lanier, a homemaker and an engineering firm officer, died Wednesday of complications of Alzheimer's disease at Gerstenberg Hospice Center in Palm Beach, Fla. She was 88 and had lived in Pikesville before moving to Dunedin, Fla., in 1969.

Born Dorothea Kaltenbaugh in Johnstown, Pa., she moved to Pikesville in the 1940s and lived on Deerfield Road.

In 1940 she married James T. Lanier Sr. and ran the office and did bookkeeping for Lanier Engineering Sales, a Brooklyn Park business they owned. At the time of her death she was a vice president in the firm, which sells hydraulic and pneumatic equipment. Her husband died in 1975.

She had been a member of the Inner Wheel, the women's division of the Pikesville Rotary.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Sylvan Abbey Funeral Home, Dunedin, Fla.

Mrs. Lanier is survived by two sons, James T. Lanier Jr. of Owings Mills and Barry W. Lanier of Clearwater, Fla.; a daughter, Judith L. Goodwin of Sebring, Fla.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
