After allowing visiting St. Paul's to score first yesterday, the No. 3 Calvert Hall football team came back with five unanswered touchdowns en route to a 33-6 victory.

Brian McGettigan scored on a 2-yard run on the Crusaders' first possession, but it was all Calvert Hall (6-0) from there.

Cardinals quarterback Andrew Goldbeck threw for one touchdown and ran for another during the rally, which also featured a 12-yard scoring run from Nick Williams and two defensive touchdowns, on an interception return and a fumble recovery.

Boys volleyball

Boys' Latin 3, John Carroll 0: It took 10 matches, but someone finally beat the Patriots.

After storming through the early part of their inaugural season in the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference with a 10-0 mark, John Carroll fell to a scrappy Lakers squad, 15-10, 15-11, 15-13.

"No one expected anyone to be able to beat them, but we had been playing well recently and we went in confident that we were going to win," Lakers coach Drew Haugh said.

"They're the new king of the hill in the league, so to speak, and it took a real team effort to beat them."

Senior captains Andrew Berger and Korey Rubeling led the way on offense for the Lakers (9-3), who won despite trailing in the second game 11-6 and in the third game 12-6.
