Highland Games in Annapolis

THE BALTIMORE SUN

Take the high road or the low road, but find your way to the Scottish Highland Games in Annapolis Saturday. After all, it's not every day you get to watch men in kilts doing athletic things. This year's festival of all things Scottish features competitions in sheaf-tossing, caber-tossing, hammer-throwing, Highland dancing, fiddling, piping and more.

Folks can watch demonstrations and exhibitions with sheep dogs, Scottish dogs, Clydesdales and Highland cattle. The Scottish historical group the 84th Highlanders will present an educational exhibit on Scottish soldiers. The Homespun Ceilidh Band, fiddler Bonnie Rideout, the Highland-Aires and others will perform.

More than 40 clans and Scottish societies will be represented at the event, which also will feature children's games, and vendors offering Scottish food items and goods.

The Scottish Highland Games run 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday at Anne Arundel County Fairgrounds, Route 178, Annapolis. $3-$10; free for ages under 12. Call 410-849-2849.
