Commissioners review water plan with wells, plant

THE BALTIMORE SUN

The Carroll County commissioners completed their review of a proposed revision of the water and sewer master plan yesterday, but took no action on the document.

The plan contains a $16 million water treatment plant at Piney Run Reservoir in Sykesville to ease water problems in South Carroll. It also includes maps of proposed well sites throughout South Carroll.

All six candidates running for commissioner next month oppose the Piney Run plant and have said they will not pursue it. The project has no construction permit from the state and has generated intense opposition from residents.

The commissioners will review the plan and all attached comments before voting on it.

If they approve the document, they will forward it the Maryland Department of the Environment, which has final authority on water and sewer issues.
