George E. Rayme Sr., 82, customer service manager

George E. Rayme Sr., a former BP Oil Co. customer service manager, died Friday at Brightwood Center in Brooklandville of complications from a fall. The Mays Chapel resident was 82.

Born and raised on Ridgecroft Road in Baltimore's Gardenville neighborhood, Mr. Rayme was a 1938 graduate of City College. He assembled aircraft at the Glenn L. Martin Co. in Middle River during World War II.

In 1945, he joined John R. Sherwood Oil Co., eventually becoming customer service manager. He remained with the business after it was acquired by BP Oil until he retired in 1975.

From 1976 to 1981, Mr. Rayme was a clerical worker for Liberty Mutual Insurance Co. in Baltimore.

An Orioles, Ravens and University of Maryland sports fan, Mr. Rayme had managed and coached for Roland Park Little League in the early years of the league. He also was a member of DeMolay.

Mr. Rayme was a parishioner of Ascension Lutheran Church in Towson, where services were held Monday.

Mr. Rayme is survived by his wife of 61 years, the former Carolyn S. Steedman; a son, George E. Rayme Jr. of Timonium; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
