$8.8 million OK'd for security-related improvements
The Federal Aviation Administration has approved $8.8 million for security-related improvements at Baltimore-Washington International Airport.
The funding comes in two grants. One, for $6.3 million, will be used to modify security checkpoints at Piers C and D and for other security measures. The other, for $2.5 million, will be used to design strategies for explosives-detection in checked luggage.
BWI was chosen in January as the test airport to study improvements for airport security by the Transportation Security Administration.
Hall linking Piers B, C designed to aid travelers
Southwest Airlines passengers who have connecting flights soon will use a new hallway between Piers B and C at Baltimore-Washington International Airport.
The new hallway, which is expected to be completed this month, will allow travelers access to both piers without having to exit and go through security a second time. Southwest operates flights on Piers B and C. The hallway will assist passengers until Southwest can consolidate its operations on Piers A and B as part of the airport's expansion program.
