Marguerite Crosbie, a doting grandmother and avid craftswoman, died Friday of complications from diabetes at Harmony Hall Retirement Center in Columbia. She was 83.

Marguerite Fowler grew up in Dorsey and attended Glen Burnie High School until she was 16, when she dropped out to work and help support her family. She later attended business school in Baltimore.

In 1943, she married Howard H. "Bing" Crosbie Jr. The couple remained in Dorsey throughout their marriage, except for a brief time spent in State College, Pa., where Mr. Crosbie was stationed as an officer in the Navy during World War II.

Mrs. Crosbie worked as a secretary at various local companies until her first child was born in 1947.

After her husband's death in 1997, she moved to Harmony Hall.

Before diabetes took her sight, Mrs. Crosbie enjoyed needlework and oil painting, but her favorite pastime was spending time with her grandchildren.

She was a longtime member of Dorsey Emmanuel United Methodist Church.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Hubbard Funeral Home in Baltimore, 4107 Wilkens Ave.

Mrs. Crosbie is survived by her daughter, Diana L. Harper of Relay; her son, Howard H. Crosbie III of Mauldin, S.C.; and three grandchildren.

The family suggests contributions be made to Friends of the Maryland State Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped, 672 Old Mill Road, No. 128, Millersville 21108, or to the American Diabetes Association, 3120 Timanus Lane, Suite 106, Baltimore 21244.
