BREWERS: Announced that David Wilder moved from VP of player personnel to special assignment scout.

METS: Activated IF-OF Jorge Toca from 60-day DL and added him to 40-man roster. Designated P Kane Davis for assignment.

ROCKIES: Announced that Bill Geivett, director of player personnel, will also oversee minor-league operations. Named Marc Gustafson assistant director of player development and Paul Herfurth assistant director of player development.

College

ARKANSAS: Women's basketball team suspended C Kiesha Beard until end of semester and F Kela Peterson for first two games of season for violating rules.

HOFSTRA: Suspended G Rick Apodaca, leading scorer, and F Wendell Gibson for first 14 games of 2002-03 basketball season for violation of university policy.

WASHINGTON: Received permission to talk with former Colorado QB Craig Ochs, who quit Buffaloes and left the school last month.

COLTS: Signed OL Tupe Peko from practice squad. Waived DB Joe Walker.

PGA TOUR: Announced that United States will send Phil Mickelson and David Toms to EMC World Cup on Dec. 10-15 in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

BLUE JACKETS: Claimed F Hannes Hyvonen off waivers from Panthers.

TEAM CANADA: Named Don Maloney assistant GM and Jim Nill director of player personnel for the world hockey championships in May 2003 in Helsinki, Finland.
