Skeptics wonder if Terence Arter's average of 26.9 yards a carry is for real. In yesterday's 52-18 rout of Baltimore City rival Lake Clifton, the Edmondson junior demonstrated that maybe it is.

The 5-foot-8, 170-pounder rushed for 213 yards on nine carries -- 23.6 yards a run -- and scored three touchdowns behind a line whose average size is 6 feet 1, 255 pounds.

"I had such good blocking, that really I was untouched" on each of his scores of 40, 57 and 66 yards, he said. "It was a pretty good running day, the best I've had this year."

Edmondson's nine-man rotation of two-way linemen was a big reason for that.

They are sophomore Lonnie Harvey (6-4, 320 pounds), junior Dennis Cooper (6-2, 330), Damien Tucker, Jonathan Sykes, Kinshasa Jackson, Monterial Mills, Tavon Taylor, and the Scott twins, Corey and Chris.

Their efforts helped the Red Storm (5-0) dominate a team whose defense had previously allowed six points.

Chris Scott and Omari Garnett recovered fumbles that set up the Red Storm's first two scores for a 16-0 lead with 2:48 left in the first quarter.

Roderick Wolfe (four receptions, 78 yards) scored Edmondson's first touchdown on a 33-yard scoring reception from Darryl Smith (7-for-8 passing, 98 yards). Its second was Greg Hawkins' 4-yard run.

It was 24-0 after Arter's first touchdown, but as time expired in the first half, the Lakers' Cole Floyd returned one of his two fumble recoveries 88 yards for a touchdown, ending Edmondson's bid for its fourth shutout.

"I thought it would spark us," Floyd said.

Instead, it sparked the Red Storm's 20-point third quarter and a 44-6 lead.

"We wanted another shutout, so that fired us up," said Hawkins, who also recovered a fumble. "We decided to jump on them right then."

Arter's second touchdown capped a four-play, 86-yard drive for a 30-6 lead. And on Lake Clifton's next series, Mills recovered a fumble for a touchdown and a 38-6 lead.

It was 44-6 after Garnett returned an interception 40 yards to Lake Clifton's 6-yard line, setting up Wolfe's ninth scoring catch of the year on the next play.

Lake Clifton (3-2) got two late scores. Dajuan Stepne rushed for a 2-yard touchdown, and Derrick Hayes had a 32-yard scoring reception.

Also contributing defensively were Edmondson's James Hall with two interceptions, Harvey with two tackles for lost yardage and Taylor with a sack.
