Bleakman, Ret. Lt. Col. Melvin J.

RET. LT. COL. MELVIN, J. BLEAKMAN, USAF, age 85 of Roswell, GA, died Friday, September 20, 2002. Melvin was born January 1, 1917 in Baltimore, MD and was the son of the late Solomon and Bertha Bleakman. Lt. Col. Bleakman started his career as a pilot in the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II flying B-17 Flying Fortress, and continued serving in the newly formed U.S. Air Force until his retirement in 1964. During his military career Lt. Col. Bleakman received the Distinguished Flying Cross twice among his other military honors. Mr. Bleakman was a Judo instructor for over 40 years, obtaining the rank of 6th degree black belt. He taught many students from 1966 until 1982 at the Northside YMCA in Buckhead, GA. He was also a referee during the 1964 National Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. Mr. Bleakman is survived by his children; Barbara Collrin of Dallas, GA, David Bleakman of Woodstock, GA, Karen Bleakman of Roswell, GA and Marian Eisenberg of Stone Mountain, GA; grandchildren Lisbeth Higgins, Luke Higgins, Meredith Eisenberg, Samuel Eisenberg and Kaylee Bleakman. Suddenly On Monday, September 23, 2002, JAMES GREGORY ZIMMERLY, M.D., 61, of 6300 Old National Pike, Boonsboro, Maryland, died at the Washington County Hospital. Born March 25, 1941 in Longview, Texas, he was the son of the late George James and Irene Gertrude Kohler Zimmerly. He was a graduate from the Gannon University in Erie, Pennsylvania, the University of Maryland Medical School, and University of Maryland Law School. He received his Masters in Public Health from Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, Maryland. He retired as a Colonel from the U.S. Army. He was a Corporate Physician with the Monument Life Insurance Company in Baltimore, Maryland; was an Emergency Physician with the Washington County Hospital and Dorchester County Hospital in Dorchester, Maryland; was Professor of Law at the Georgetown University, a member of the University of Maryland Faculty; and was President of Rh Typing Lab in Baltimore, Maryland. He is survived by his wife, Johanna (Jo) Zimmerly; two daughters, Robin Zimmerly of Charlottesville, Virginia, and Deborah Kuvilla of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; two sons, Mark Zimmerly, and Scott Zimmerly, both of Baltimore, Maryland; two stepdaughters, Kristina Stotelmyer of Smithsburg, Maryland, and Suzanne Lewis of Wolfsville, Maryland; one sister, Janet Hubler of Erie, Pennsylvania; one brother, Al Tennent of Holland, Michigan; two grandchildren; and one niece and two nephews.
