Rinehart, Gail W.

On September 16, 2002, GAIL W. RINEHART died at Christiana Hospital of a heart attack. She had undergone treatment for cancer for several months. Gail grew up in Baltimore. She graduated from Friends School there in 1964. The following is an excerpt from a letter sent by Wilmington Friends School: Gail enjoyed a remarkable career as a teacher here at Friends. She joined the faculty upon her graduation from college in 1968, and over the course of her thirty-four year tenure, Gail touched the lives of children across all levels of the school. For many years, she taught middle and upper school physical education, middle school health and decision-making and she coached teams in the middle and upper school. Later, Gail joined the lower school faculty, teaching fifth grade science and math. In that capacity, for ten years Gail was also a buddy class teacher with a kindergarten class, a role that she particularly enjoyed. She earned her Masters of Education in Counseling in 1985 from the University of Delaware.Her annual migration to Camp Four Winds in Maine began in the summer after school ended. At camp, Gail had been a counselor, waterfront director, ski, canoeing, life saving counselor in addition to camp director and business manager. Cathy Larson, Executive Director of Camp Four Winds, described Gail as a force with which to be reckoned, but she was also a compassionate, honest and uncommonly loyal friend.For several years, Gail served as a Trustee, one of three, for the Town of Arden.She is survived by her parents, Dr. and Mrs. Arthur M. Rinehart of Cockeysvillle, Maryland; one brother, William Warden Rinehart of Chicago, IL; devoted friends, Donna and David McBeth; their children Clare and Nathan; Thalia Putney; Ann and Gerhard Schmeisser; many friends in the camp community, The Wilmington Friends School community and the Arden Community.
