Papa John's program gives discounts for food bank donations
The Westminster and Eldersburg Papa John's Pizza restaurants are participating in a new company program to benefit the Maryland Food Bank.
"Papa John's Cans Hunger" begins tomorrow and continues through Oct. 20.
Customers may donate up to three nonperishable food items to receive $1 off a large pizza. The maximum deduction per transaction is $3, but customers are encouraged to donate what they can. Patrons must inform personnel of their donation when they place their order.
Rudy's 2900 Octoberfest: beer, wine, German food
Rudy's 2900 Restaurant will hold a traditional Octoberfest event at 6:45 p.m. Oct. 2 and 3, featuring carefully chosen wines and imported beers with authentic German cuisine.
Bavarian-born certified master chef Rudy Speckamp and maitre d' Paul, a native of Thuringia, Germany, will offer more than two dozen German/continental specialties, including goulash, sour beef, beef rouladen, braised veal shank and hunter's schnitzel, plus salads, vegetables and desserts.
Rudy's staff will be attired in colorful dirndl dresses and lederhosen, and a roaming musician will play Octoberfest tunes.
The cost is $42.50, excluding tax and gratuities. Rudy's is at 2900 Baltimore Blvd. in Finksburg.
Workshops, presentations offered at technology fair
The Carroll County Technology Council, the Chamber of Commerce and Carroll Community College will hold the Biz Tech Exposition 2002 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 18 at the college.
The expo will display the latest technological advances and offer information and demonstrations to help businesses become more effective.
Topics will include banking electronically by BB&T;, video conferencing by CTSI, marketing in-house by Kohn Creative Solutions, and using Microsoft Office by the college.
Workshops will be offered on accounting software, Internet banking, databases, PowerPoint, Microsoft Office, the Electronic Farm and hiring online.
Mario Armstrong, host of the Digital Spin on WMAR-TV, will be master of ceremonies.
Businesses must register in advance to participate. Registration fees are $20 by Oct. 1 and $25 after Oct. 1. Fees include workshops, exhibits, a continental breakfast and a box lunch.
