Baltimore Sun’s BEST party in 2 weeks

Football glance

Severna Park (1-1) at Chesapeake (2-0)

Time: 7:15 p.m.

Outlook: Everybody knew about the host Cougars' single-wing attack led by RBs Nick Bowen and Lenny Hall, but their defense has been just as impressive with two shutouts. Jack LaPlanche, Zach Ring and Lloyd Henson have led a defense that posted 28-0 and 27-0 wins over Meade last week and North County in the opener. Severna Park ended a nine-game losing streak with a 21-18 win over South River last week.

Glen Burnie (0-2) at No. 6 Annapolis (2-0)

Time: 7:15 p.m.

Outlook: The host Panthers are rolling while the Gophers are reeling. Annapolis is firing on all cylinders with a bevy of speedy RBs and a fast-developing QB in junior Larry Beavers on offense and a hard-hitting defense led by LB Darius Johnson and DBs Demario Harris and Davon Watkins.

South River (1-1) at No. 4 Old Mill (2-0)

Time: 7:15 p.m.

Outlook: Any chances of the visitors upsetting the Patriots vanished when their star RB Mike Klug broke his leg last week in a loss to Severna Park. Old Mill's Brashaad Mayweather leads the metro area with 551 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns.

No. 15 Broadneck (1-1) at Arundel (1-1)

Time: 7:15 p.m.

Outlook: The visiting Bruins are coming off their first loss by 21-7 to Annapolis while the Wildcats are coming off their first win by 33-27 over Glen Burnie in OT. LBs Preston Pehrson and Doug Sowells lead a Bruins defense that could create havoc for Arundel QB Bobby Schram. On the other side of the ball, Bruins QB Fred Steinmark reads defenses well and is accurate throwing the ball.

Northeast (1-1) at Fallston (0-2)

Time: 7:15 p.m.

Outlook: Despite being on the road in Harford County, a second straight win is likely for the Eagles. Last week, Northeast amassed more than 350 yards rushing in ripping Liberty, 42-0, while Fallston fell to Elkton, 25-13. This could be a much tougher game than Liberty, but the running of A.J. Barber and Paul Lutz should prevail.

Southern (1-1) at Chopticon (0-2)

Time: 7 p.m.

Outlook: The Bulldogs from Harwood travel down to St. Mary's County for a second straight week, this time to Morganza, looking for similar results. Last week, Southern hammered Great Mills, 44-15, as Justin Holland and Chris Lee scored two touchdowns each. Southern hopes to avenge last year's 25-22 loss to the SMAC Braves .

North County (0-2) at Meade (0-2)

Time: 7:15 p.m.

Outlook: This is an interesting game with both teams scoreless and winless. Meade has failed to take advantage of having its first three games at home and needs this one bad. A lot of preseason talking by players and coaches on the defending Class 4A East region champions has come back to haunt the Mustangs.

North Carroll (1-1) vs. St. Mary's (1-1)

Time: 7 p.m.

Site: Anne Arundel Community College

Outlook: Saints coach Mike Codd is hoping his sputtering offense will get moving this week and give their tough defense some help after last week's 20-9 loss to No. 12 Glenelg (2-0). Visiting North Carroll is coming off a 49-0 drubbing of Sparrows Point (0-2) after a 24-0 season-opening loss to No. 14 Francis Scott Key (2-0).

Friends (0-1) at Archbishop Spalding (1-2)

Time: 7 p.m.

Outlook: After halting a 10-game losing streak with a 23-20 victory at Charter (Del.) on Brandon Woods' second interception of the game that he returned 88 yards for a score in the final period, the Cavs look to reach .500 by avenging last year's 25-13 loss to the Quakers.

Severn (1-0) at Boys' Latin (1-0)

Time: 1 p.m.

Outlook: After a week off following their 22-0 victory over McDonogh, the Admirals travel to Baltimore to face the Lakers. Boys' Latin opened with a 28-6 victory at Friends last week. Severn will be out for its first MIAA B Conference win over a team it beat 9-0 last year.
