Football at a glance

Oakland Mills (2-0) at Cardinal Gibbons (0-2)

Time: 7 p.m.

Outlook: The Scorpions are off to a fast start and should pick up more steam this week as they prepare for a Sept. 28 showdown with Wilde Lake. After beating first-year Century, 34-6, last week, Oakland Mills faces a Cardinal Gibbons team that has been outscored, 86-0.

Linganore (1-1) at Howard (0-2)

Time: 7:30 p.m.

Outlook: The Lions hope to get their offense rolling after being outscored 87-0 in their opening games against Wilde Lake and River Hill. Linganore of Frederick County won its opener against Walkersville but lost last week to Damascus, 21-14. It doesn't get any easier for the Lions.

Glenelg (2-0) at Hammond (0-2)

Time: 2 p.m.

Outlook: The Gladiators continue to play a hard-nosed running style with success, and go up against a Bears team they defeated last season, 35-12. Hammond lost an overtime heartbreaker to Centennial last week, 24-21, and has given up 67 points in two games.

Long Reach (2-0) at Wilde Lake (2-0)

Time: 2 p.m.

Outlook: The Lightning defeated Wilde Lake for the first time last season and will go as far as its huge line takes it. Plus, Long Reach's passing game awoke in last week's 39-14 win over Mount Hebron. But the Wildecats have outscored opponents, 92-0, and also have a big line.

Centennial (1-1) at Mount Hebron (1-1)

Time: 2 p.m.

Outlook: Trailing Hammond 21-0 after three quarters, the Eagles rallied behind second-string QB Scott Middleton's three touchdown passes to win in overtime, 24-21, for coach Ross Hannon's first victory. The Vikings lost to Centennial last season, 26-13.

Atholton (0-2) at River Hill (2-0)

Time: 2 p.m.

Outlook: The Hawks have scored 78 points in their first two games. Atholton has been outscored, 60-0. The math would indicate a substantial River Hill victory, and the best start ever for the Hawks, whose coach, Brian Van Deusen, once quarterbacked Atholton.
