Gunnison, Dorothy Clark

DOROTHY CLARK GUNNISON, 84, of Prospect, Kentucky, went to her reward Sunday morning, September 15, 2002. She had suffered a stroke on Friday. She was the former DOROTHY ANNE CLARK of Baltimore, Maryland who attended Goucher College and was a retired bookkeeper. She was an avid gardener, traveler and conversationalist and was a member of the Louisville Gamma Phi Beta Sorority Alumni Chapter, and a member of St. Francis in the Fields Episcopal Church. She was preceded in death by her brother James Gardner Clark. She is survived by her sister, Celeste Van Fleet; daughters Alice Clark Gunnison and Dr. Karen Clark Gunnison; granddaughters Anne Milner Rust (Aaron), Elizabeth Kristin Milner Evans (Robert), Caitlin Mason Gray Stewart and many friends. She lived an enthusiastic life-independent until the end--and died peacefully surrounded by her family. A Memorial Service was held on Wednesday, September 18, 2002, at St. Francis in the Fields Episcopal Church. Simpson III, James Polk

Mr. James Polk Simpson III, 82, of Winchester, VA, former resident of Clarke County for 45 years, died Monday, September 16, 2002, at his home. Mr Simpson was born September 21, 1919 in Richmond, VA, the son of James Polk Simpson, Jr., and Alice Owens Simpson. He was a horseman. He served in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Air Force. He married Nancy Bristow Simpson on September 8, 1951 in Urbanna, VA. Survived with his wife are two sons, James Polk Simpson IV of Tinton Falls, NJ and Peter Bristow Simpson of Richmond; a granddaughter, Mary Dabney Simpson and grandson, Graham Bristow Simpson, both of Richmond; a sister Alice Gray Newcomb of Fredericksburg, VA, and several nieces and nephews. Services will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 West Cork Street, Winchester, VA 22601.
