John William Settino, a retired Department of Defense employee assigned to the National Security Agency, died of cancer Saturday at his Glen Burnie home, the day before his 70th birthday. He had lived in Glen Burnie for 43 years.
Born and raised in the Bronx, N.Y., he served for four years in the Air Force in the early 1950s and attained the rank of staff sergeant. He moved to Maryland in the mid-1950s and worked for the government for 34 years. He retired about 15 years ago.
Mr. Settino was a member of Moose Lodge 1456.
A memorial Mass will be offered at 5 p.m. tomorrow at Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, 7436 Baltimore-Annapolis Blvd., Glen Burnie.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, the former Jean Ann Stanek; two sons, John Settino of Pasadena and Dwayne Settino of Glen Burnie; a daughter, Darlene Joy of Pasadena; and seven grandchildren.
The family suggested contributions to a cause for which he volunteered, the Debra Klipsch Memorial Walk, in care of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Maryland chapter, 10616 Beaver Dam Road S-6, Hunt Valley 21030.
