Unidentified man found fatally shot in car

Police officers investigating gunshots near the Waverly neighborhood early yesterday found the body of an unidentified man inside a car that had drifted down a street and come to rest against another vehicle.

The victim - found about 12:30 a.m. inside a Nissan Sentra in the 3700 block of Elkader Road, north of the site of Memorial Stadium - had been shot at least once in the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the crew of a city Fire Department ambulance. His body was taken to the state medical examiner's office for an autopsy and possible identification through fingerprints.

It was not known last night if the car belonged to the victim. Anyone with information about the slaying is urged to contact Detective Michael Johnson at 410-396-2100.
