Judy Sklaroff, co-owner of a dry cleaning business, died yesterday of complications of Alzheimer's disease at the Jewish Convalescent Home. The Randallstown resident was 95.
Born Sara Judith Cohen in Poland and known as Judy, she arrived in New York at age 11 and grew up in the Bronx. In 1935, she married Harry L. Sklaroff.
They moved to Baltimore in 1949 when he purchased Greenmount Cleaners at 1608 Greenmount Ave., where Mrs. Sklaroff greeted customers and ran the front counter. The couple later owned Judy Lane Cleaners at Light and Cross streets, near the Cross Street Market. They gave up the business in 1971. Mr. Sklaroff died eight years later.
Mrs. Sklaroff was a volunteer at the Jewish Community Center in Owings Mills.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. today at Beth El Memorial Park, 9800 Liberty Road, Randallstown.
Mrs. Sklaroff is survived by a son, Mark N. Sklaroff of Belview, Wash.; two daughters, Roberta Schneider of Finksburg and Phyllis Pesacov of Pikesville; a brother, Nat Cohen of the Bronx; two sisters, Jean Winston of Plantation, Fla., and Ray Hartenberg of Tucson, Ariz.; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandson. A daughter, Joyce Grunberg, died last year.
