Baltimore Sun’s BEST party in 2 weeks

Football glance

Oakland Mills (1-0) at Century (0-1)

Time: 7 p.m.

Outlook: First-year Century, a 20-2 loser last week to Liberty, faces a Class 1A state finalist from last season, Oakland Mills. The Scorpions, a 20-0 winner over Atholton last week, expect another strong season and should easily prevail in the 2A school's first varsity home game.

Glenelg (1-0) at St. Mary's (1-0)

Time: 4 p.m.

Outlook: The location was switched because Glenelg's home field is still recovering from construction. Still, the 2A Gladiators, 26-0 winners over Centennial last week, should be prepared for 1A St. Mary's, a 9-6 overtime victor against Northeast-Anne Arundel. This is the first time the teams have played.

Hammond (0-1) at Centennial (0-1)

Time: 2 p.m.

Outlook: The 2A teams hope the second week of the season is kinder and gentler to them than the first, when the Bears lost to River Hill, 43-14, and first-year coach Ross Hannon's Eagles lost to Glenelg, 26-0. Centennial defeated Hammond last season, 34-15.

Wilde Lake (1-0) at Atholton (0-1)

Time: 2 p.m.

Outlook: The five-time state champion Wildecats are back to state championship caliber. Last week, Wilde Lake scored on every possession in crushing Howard under the lights, 52-0. A similar fate may await the Raiders, who were winless last season.

Howard (0-1) at River Hill (1-0)

Time: 2 p.m.

Outlook: Howard coach Vince Parnell hopes the Lions aren't as bad as they looked in a 52-0 loss to Wilde Lake. River Hill coach Brian Van Deusen is hoping the Hawks produce an effort equal to last week's 43-14 win over Hammond. River Hill defeated Howard last season, 49-0.

Mount Hebron (1-0) at Long Reach (1-0)

Time: 2 p.m.

Outlook: The Lightning's rusing attack will be hard to stop. Davon Gilmore, Anthony Rogers and Jereme Scott combined for 244 yards in Long Reach's 12-0 win over Westminster last week. The Vikings, 43-14 winners over Pikesville last week, upset Long Reach last season, 23-22.
