Two sistahs open up opera

THE BALTIMORE SUN

Two gifted sopranos are making a concerted and novel effort to entice more minority listeners into the realm of opera. Angela Brown and Kishna Davis will present "Opera -- From a Sistah's Point of View" at 6 p.m. today at New Shiloh Baptist Church, Monroe and Clifton streets.

The New York-based Brown, a Metropolitan Opera National Auditions winner, has been making a name for herself in appearances with several opera companies and orchestras around the country. Maryland-based Davis, a winner of the Baltimore Opera Competition, has been doing the same.

Their program, which also features baritone and pianist Victor Simonson (assistant musical director of the popular Three Mo' Tenors concerts), mixes opera selections, gospel, spirituals, Broadway tunes and more in an informal setting.

Admission is free. For more information, call 410-523-5306.
