Maryland's popular, talented filly Xtra Heat will seek to top the $2 million mark in earnings today, headlining a field of five in the Grade III, $150,000 Endine Stakes at Delaware Park.
Xtra Heat enters what figures to be her first tuneup for the Breeders' Cup Sprint with a bankroll of $1,978,305. Though favored to win, she would top the $2 million mark with either first- or second-place money, a track release said.
Four rivals are scheduled to test Kenneth Taylor's horse in a 6-furlong sprint - Urban Dancer, Bruanna, Outstanding Info and Hong Kong Charlie. Trained by John Salzman Sr., she is expected to run again Oct. 6 at Belmont Park.
Xtra Heat, a 4-year-old, has won 22 of 29 races, including 21 stakes. Her most recent victory was in the Grade III Straight Deal at Laurel Park on Aug. 10.
