Baker, Jessie Dorothy JESSIE DOROTHY BAKER (nee Peddicord) died peacefully in her 93rd year surrounded by friends and family at her home in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where she had lived since 1966. She was the wife of the late H. Roland Baker, an Officer of the Pennsylvania Railroad Company and later of the Penn Central Railroad. Mrs. Baker was the medical assistant to Arthur J. Davies, M.D. from 1930 until 1943, she she retired to become a homemaker and mother of their son, Bruce R. Baker, currently, President and CEO fo Semantic Compaction Systems (a software company) and Adjunct Associate Professor, University of Pittsburgh. Mrs. Baker was born in the Hamden section of Baltimore, but later lived in Perryville, Maryland, Logansport, Indiana, Chicago, Illinois, and Valparaiso, Indiana. She was a member and officer of the Eastern Star and The League of Women Voters. She was an active volunteer in many organizations including The American National Red Cross (Gray Lady, Memorial Hospital, Logansport, Indiana) and the Baltimore Civil Defense Board. In 1982, she co-founded Minspeak Corporation, a software company dedicated to improving the lives of people who had lost the ability to speak. Active during her later years, from 1985 until 2000, she traveled extensively across the United States, Canada, and Western Europe. She served on the Official Boards of the Hamden Untied Methodist Church, Perryvile United Methodist Church and Broadway United Methodist Church, Logansport, Indiana. At time of her death, she was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Bethel Park, Pennsylvania. Mrs. Baker is survived by her son, Bruce, and by innumerable nieces and nephews. Her Interment will be at the Christ U.M. Church columbarium. WRIGHT, Alice L. On Saturday, August 31, 2002, at Memorial Regional Medical Center in Mechanicsville, Virginia, ALICE PAULETTE LUTTRELL WRIGHT, 60 of Tappahannock, Virginia, formerly of Clarke County. Born May 19, 1942, in Washington, DC, she was the daughter of the late Norman Paul and Agnes Love Larrick Luttrell. Alice graduated from Clarke County High School in 1960 an took a job with Western Electric in Baltimore. She stayed with the company for 42 years as it evolved to AT&T;, Lucent and Viasystems Technology and moved from Baltimore to Richmond. She retired on May 25, 2001, as a buyer/planner. Alice was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. She loved travel, crochet, baking, reading and bowling, but above all, her family. Among her survivors are her children, Lisa Wright of Tappahannock, and David Wright and his wife, Tonya, of Dunssville, Virginia; her grandchildren, Laura McGee, Ashley Crispens and Holli Porak; her brothers and sisters, June Maxey of Pasadena, Maryland, Isaac Luttrell and his wife, Diane, of Gore, Virginia, Ramona DeLaFe of Berryville, Virginia, Ruth Riga and her husband, Tony, of Goshen, Indiana, Mary Luttrell of Winchester, Virginia, and Mollie Hillegas of Quakertown, Pennsylvania; her sister-in-law, Betty Luttrell of Winchester, a devoted niece, Melody Knupp-Tolson of Greensboro, Maryland, her devoted friends Fran and Richard Hannah of Mechanicsville and Paul Davis of Tappahannock, her former husband, David Wright of Tappahannock and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she was pre-deceased by her sister, Bernice Brigance, and her brother, Donald Luttrell. A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 P.M. On Thursday, September 5, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel, with the Reverend Diane Downer officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Hebron Cemetery.
