A number of Carroll County churches and organizations will offer memorial services in remembrance of the Sept. 11 attacks.
Services are open to the public. Memorials include:
American Legion Post 191 of Mount Airy will hold a Patriot Day service to remember the victims of 9/11 at 3 p.m. Sept. 8 at Pine Grove Chapel.
The event is co-sponsored by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Four Counties Post 10076.
The program will open with the raising of the American flag, which then will be lowered to half-staff. Post 10076's Loyalty Day Queen Jillian Henson will lead the Pledge of Allegiance. Speakers will include representatives from the two posts, and fire and police officials.
The second monument in front of the chapel, which includes the names of William Ruth and Ronald Vauk, who were killed in the attack on the Pentagon, will be rededicated. The program will conclude with a prayer, American Legion Post 168 from Thurmont color guard firing three rounds, and the playing of taps.

Lazarus United Church of Christ will hold a Harvest Home and 9/11 Remembrance worship service at 10 a.m. Sept. 8 with "Strength in Numbers," a sermon by the Rev. Verna Call. Bob and the Boys will provide music.
A Prayer/Healing Service in Remembrance of 9/11 will be held at 7 p.m. Sept. 8.

St. Paul's Episcopal Church of Poplar Springs will hold a 9/11 Remembrance Service at the church Sept. 11.
A potluck supper will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 6:45 p.m., and the service will begin at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary.

Immanuel Lutheran Church of Manchester will hold a service of remembrance and hope at 7 p.m. Sept. 11.
The service will honor those who responded to the disasters and those who died in the attacks. Individuals with relatives who survived and those who visited the sites immediately after the attacks will give testimonials.
The Manchester Volunteer Fire Department will participate in the service. The church's adult choir will sing the national anthem.

The Greater Pipe Creek Ministerial Association will hold a Service of Remembrance for the victims of 9/11 at 7 p.m. Sept. 11 at Pipe Creek Church of the Brethren.
The community chorus will provide music.

Westminster Senior Activities Center will hold a Memorial and Remembrance program for 9/11 at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 11.
The program will feature patriotic songs, readings and a time for remembering those who died in the attacks in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania.

Mount Airy Senior Center will hold a memorial luncheon to remember 9/11 on Sept. 11.
Ryan Richardson, associate pastor from the Church of Christ, will present reflections on 9/11 at 11 a.m. Those attending are asked to wear red, white and blue to show support for those who died that day and those who worked to save lives.
Lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m. for a donation of up to $3.10.
At noon, activities will stop, and the Pledge of Allegiance and a prayer for the nation will be recited.

The Mayor and Council of Mount Airy will hold a brief ceremony at 7 p.m. Sept. 11 to honor two residents who died in the attack on the Pentagon. The town will dedicate a small memorial and park area to Chief Warrant Officer William Ruth and Commander Ronald Vauk. The park is near the corner of Center and South Main streets. 301-829-1424.
Calvary United Methodist Church will hold a Service of Remembrance, Prayer and Peace at 7 p.m. Sept. 11. The service will include other local congregations and will begin with a time of prayer at 7 p.m., followed by the service at 7:15 p.m. The church is at 403 S. Main St., Mount Airy. 301-829-0358.
Deer Park United Methodist Church will hold a Sept. 11 Memorial Service at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 11. The community is welcome to share in prayer and remembrance of 9/11. The church is at Deer Park Road and Route 32 in Westminster. 410-848-2313.
