Modern Comfort, Tevis Oil observe 70th anniversary

Tevis Oil and Modern Comfort Systems will celebrate 70 years of service to the community with an open house from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at both Westminster locations.

Tevis Oil is at 82 John St., and Modern Comfort Systems is at 100 Airport Drive. Demonstrations and new products will be featured, along with music and refreshments.

On display will be new HVAC systems, biodiesel, automated fueling cards, propane tanks and piping and new truck technology.

Network cabling course at community college

Carroll Community College will offer a new noncredit course in Fiber Optics and Copper Network Cabling from 6 p.m. to 10:15 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays Sept. 10 to Nov. 7 at the college's new Business Training Center at 1601 Washington Road in Westminster.

Designed to prepare the student as an entry-level network cabling specialist, the class features hands-on instruction for fabrication, installation, troubleshooting and repair of a telecommunication cabling system used in data, voice, video and security.

Students will master the basic techniques used when working with Category 5 (copper wiring) and fiber optic cabling using state-of-the-market equipment.

The course includes testing for ACES and RBT certifications for Certified Fiber Optic Network Technician and Certified Copper Cable Technician.

McDaniel dean to speak at networking group

The Business Networking Group will meet Sept. 11 at Fat Cat Cafe in Westminster.

Networking will be from 11:30 a.m. to noon, followed by lunch and a business meeting.

Barb Horneff, associate dean of the First Year Program at McDaniel College, will discuss the first year of college for traditional and nontraditional students.

The group promotes personal and professional growth through positive networking and exposure to issues and concerns facing business professionals.

Employer committee to learn about security

Carroll County Job Service Employer Committee will meet at 8 a.m. Sept. 12 at Lehigh Portland Cement Company in Union Bridge.

David Greber, attorney with Greber & Burgoon, will discuss "Protecting Your Employees: New Threats, Old Duties" - how the work world has changed since Sept. 11 and what efforts are being made to protect employees from the threat of terrorism.

A continental breakfast will be served. Lehigh is at 675 Quaker Hill Road.

Two named to board of business communicators

Two employees of Clifton Gunderson, certified public accountants, have been appointed to the board of International Association of Business Communicators, Baltimore Chapter, for the 2002-2003 term.

Susan Quinn, a 1991 graduate of North Carroll High School living in Baltimore, and Deana Sump, a resident of Eldersburg, are marketing coordinators with the Timonium firm.

Chamber of Commerce moves to new office

The Carroll County Chamber of Commerce is moving this weekend.

The chamber will move from its East Main Street office to 700 Corporate Center Court, Suite L.

Chamber offices were closed Friday for the move and will re-open at the new location Tuesday.

An open house for the new offices will be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 22.
