Raymond E. Black, who worked in the real estate department of Baltimore Gas and Electric Co. for more than 30 years and was a decorated World War II veteran, died of cancer Aug. 24 at the Memorial Hospital at Easton. He was 80.

Mr. Black, who recently moved to Easton from his longtime Timonium home, was born and raised near Patterson Park. After graduating from Patterson Park High School, he earned his bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Baltimore in 1949.

Mr. Black, who was a corporal during World War II, fought at the Battle of the Bulge and received the Bronze Star for heroism.

"He drove his jeep into enemy fire to save a wounded soldier and, after rescuing him, drove back out," said a son, F. David Black of Hunt Valley.

Mr. Black began working for BGE in 1953. He worked in the company's real estate department, where he acquired rights of way for power lines, and retired in 1986.

After retiring, Mr. Black and his wife of 50 years, the former Mary M. Kay, toured the nation in their motor home, visiting 49 states.

He was a communicant at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Texas, Baltimore County, where a Mass of Christian burial was offered Wednesday.

In addition to his wife and son, Mr. Black is survived by another son, Raymond E. Black of Stewartstown, Pa.; a daughter, Jean R. Weisman of Easton; a sister, Gertrude Jett of Richmond, Va.; and six grandchildren.
