City police officer's funeral procession to cause some road closures tomorrow

THE BALTIMORE SUN

Portions of several roads will be closed tomorrow for the funeral procession for Baltimore Police Officer Crystal D. Sheffield. The closures, which include stretches of Interstates 95, 695 and 83, will be in effect for approximately two hours, beginning about 1 p.m.

The procession will start at Mount Pleasant Ministries, 6000 Radecke Ave., head south on Radecke, south on Cedonia Avenue which turns into Sinclair Lane, east on Moravia Road, north on I-95, west on I-695, north on I-83, and east on Padonia Road, ending at Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens.

A viewing for the public will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at March Funeral Home West, 4300 Wabash Ave.

Sheffield, a three-year police veteran, was fatally injured in a car accident Aug. 21 while responding to a call from an officer who needed help in West Baltimore. Her police cruiser was struck by an unmarked police car responding to the same call. Sheffield, 35, is the city's first female police officer to die in the line of duty.

She is survived by her husband, Lt. William A. Sheffield of the city Fire Department, an 11-year-old son and a family that includes many police officers.
