Man killed, woman injured in car crash on Route 312

BRIDGETOWN - The driver was killed and a passenger seriously injured yesterday when a car ran off Route 312 and hit several trees, state police said.

A 1997 Nissan Sentra was going north on Route 312, north of Bridgetown Road, shortly before 1 a.m. when it went off the road, police said.

The driver was killed on impact. The female passenger was thrown from the car. She was taken to Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore. Police withheld their names pending notification of relatives.

Easton man, 38, killed in motorcycle accident

DENTON - A 38-year-old motorcyclist died last night when his 1980 Kawasaki ran off a road in Denton and struck a telephone pole, state police said.

The victim, William Lonnie Ross Jr. of Easton, was riding west on Route 328 near Willow Pond Road shortly before 7 p.m. when he lost control of the motorcycle while making a right turn, police said. He was declared dead at the scene.

Fatal hayride accident under police investigation

UNION BRIDGE - A hayride accident that killed an 8-year- old West Virginia boy was under investigation yesterday by the county sheriff's office.

River Cody of Shepherdstown was at a private gathering at a home on Fountain School Road where the owner was giving rides on metal carts pulled by a tractor.

The boy was on the lead cart about 5:15 p.m. when he apparently lost his balance, fell off and was run over, according to the sheriff's office.
