Girl, 16, killed, friends hurt in Calvert crash

THE BALTIMORE SUN

A collision Wednesday night in Calvert County killed a 16-year-old Edgewater girl and injured three of her 17-year-old friends, also from Edgewater, a Calvert County sheriff's office spokeswoman said.

The driver, Alexandra Ann Denevan, was pronounced dead at Calvert Memorial Hospital shortly after the accident, said Lt. Sheila Welling of the sheriff's office.

Passenger Amanda Condes was flown to the trauma center at Prince George's Hospital Center. She was listed in fair condition there yesterday.

Denevan failed to stop her 1993 Honda Accord at a stop sign on Lower Marlboro Road in Huntington, Welling said. A 1995 Dodge Dakota approaching the intersection from Route 4 broadsided the Accord, she said.

The Dakota's driver, Ronald Maurice Sypolt, 63, of Prince Frederick was taken to Calvert Memorial Hospital, as were two of Denevan's passengers, Katie Crymes and Sarah Jones. All have been released.
