Maryland opens its new basketball arena, the Comcast Center, with five games in November, according to the men's schedule announced yesterday by the university.
The defending national champion Terps will play two exhibition games - with the Harlem Globetrotters Nov. 12 and EA Sports Nov. 19 - before starting the regular season at home Nov. 24 against Miami, Ohio.
The Comcast Center also will play host to Midnight Madness - marking the beginning of basketball practice - on the evening of Oct. 11.
The first Atlantic Coast Conference game at the new arena is against Georgia Tech on Dec. 29.
The Terps will play a rematch of last season's national championship game Dec. 3 against Indiana at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. Other nonconference opponents include Texas or George Washington (in the BB&T; Classic), Florida and Notre Dame.
Florida, likely to be ranked in the Top 25, may present the biggest challenge to Maryland's nation's-best streak of 84 consecutive home wins against non-league opponents.
