Barbara H. Shreve, 89, dress shop sales associate

Barbara H. Shreve, who had been a homemaker and worked as a sales associate in a Towson dress shop, died from stroke complications Monday at Manor Care Ruxton. The Lutherville resident was 89.

Born Barbara Harris in Baltimore, a granddaughter of Maryland Gov. Edwin Warfield, she was raised on a Clarksville farm. She was a 1931 graduate of Bryn Mawr School.

In 1935, she married Levin Gale Shreve. Her husband, a career CIA official and author of an acclaimed biography of Revolutionary War hero Tench Tilghman, died in 1998. The couple had lived in Homeland and Oxford before moving to Lutherville in 1994.

Mrs. Shreve had worked for many years as a sales associate at the Clothes Line, an exclusive Towson dress shop. She was a member of the Mount Vernon Club.

Services are private.

She is survived by two nephews and five nieces.
