In Ghana, a small country on the west coast of Africa, story time doesn't require a pile of books. All that's needed is a tale to tell, some eager listeners and a storyteller with a dramatic delivery.

On Tuesday afternoon, native Ghanaians Kofi Dennis and Kwame Brew, performing as Anansegromma, will be at the Essex Branch Library to teach kids about Africa. They'll use a mix of music, games and dramatic storytelling.

Both graduates of the University of Ghana's School of Performing Arts, Dennis and Brew give kids of all ages a memorable introduction to African culture.

"We are so lucky to have them perform," said Andrea Shore, marketing manager for the Baltimore County libraries. "They are high-energy and really fantastic."

Before and after Anansegromma, kids are invited to browse books about Africa on display in the library, which is celebrating its grand reopening.

Anansegromma performs at 2 p.m. at the Essex Branch Library, 1110 Eastern Blvd. The program is sponsored by the Maryland State Arts Council. Admission is free. Call 410-887-0295 for more information.
