Nancy Susan German, a legislative liaison in the office of the secretary of the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, died of cancer Thursday at her Annapolis home. She was 58.

She was born Nancy Susan Moss in Richmond, Va., where she graduated from St. Catherine's School, a private girls' school. She earned her bachelor's degree from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1965.

She began working on the staff of the U.S. House of Representatives in 1968. From 1974 to 1978, she was employed in the office of Maryland's secretary of state in Annapolis.

Mrs. German then worked as an aide to state Sen. Thomas V. Mike Miller and later to state Sen. S. Frank Shore. In 1989, she rejoined Mr. Miller's staff as an administrative aide. She went to work for the Department of Natural Resources in 1998.

She was an accomplished gourmet cook and enjoyed collecting books on the Civil War and ghosts. She also collected models of lighthouses and wooden duck decoys, which she displayed in her home.

Mrs. German was a member of the Maryland Chapter of the Virginia Society of Women.

She was an active communicant of St. Anne's Episcopal Church, Church Circle, Annapolis, where a memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow.

Mrs. German's survivors include her husband of 30 years, Barry B. German; two daughters, Brienne Butler German and Blair Scott German, both of Annapolis; her mother, Helen Smith Moss of Richmond; a brother, Robert Clinton Moss III of Richmond; and two sisters, Catherine Moss Bayliss of Richmond and Jane Moss Lambert of Cary, N.C.
