Pa. man, Md. woman die in separate crashes

THE BALTIMORE SUN

An 81-year-old Pennsylvania man and a 27-year-old LaPlata woman were killed in separate car accidents yesterday on the Eastern Shore and in Charles County.

Edgar Herbert Laub of Willow Street, Pa., died after he was thrown from an Isuzu Rodeo that was heading west on Route 50 near Route 452 in Berlin. The driver, Susan Carpenter, 43, also of Willow Street, lost control when she swerved to avoid another car about 4:30 p.m., police said. Carpenter was treated for minor injuries.

Yolanda Mae Holt of the 300 block of Goose Creek Drive in LaPlata was killed when her Honda Accord was broadsided by a Pontiac Grand Am as she was heading east on Old Village Road and attempted to cross the southbound lanes of Route 5 in Mechanicsville about 1 p.m.

Holt's 9-year-old daughter, Mikia Shivers, was sent to Children's National Medical Center in Washington, where she was listed in critical condition last night with head injuries.
