Open house Aug. 16 at Congregation Shalom Aleichem

Congregation Shalom Aleichem will sponsor an open house at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 16 at Owen Brown Interfaith Center in Columbia.

Visitors will meet the congregation's rabbi, Joanne Yocheved Heiligman, who was ordained at the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College in Philadelphia and has served in Conservative, Reform and independent congregations.

The service will be preceded by a rededication ceremony in which a newly restored Torah scroll will be welcomed back into the congregation.

Shabbat services are held bimonthly at Owen Brown Interfaith Center. The Sunday school will sponsor an open house next month. The school for those in elementary and middle classes also meets bimonthly.

A Mass of Healing to be offered at friary

The Conventual Franciscan Friars of St. Joseph Cupertino Friary, 12290 Folly Quarter Road, near Glenelg, will offer a Mass of Healing at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 18. The Mass does not satisfy the Sunday Mass obligation.

St. Alphonsus Rodriguez Catholic Church, 10800 Old Court Road, Woodstock, will celebrate its 87th Annual Summer Festival from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. tomorrow and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
