Man killed while crossing U.S. 1

THE BALTIMORE SUN

A Jessup man walking home Tuesday night was struck by a car and killed crossing U.S. 1, Howard County police said yesterday.

John Anthony Moore, 37, of the 9900 block of Guilford Road stepped into a northbound lane of traffic - between Route 32 and Guilford Road in Jessup - and was hit about 11:30 p.m. by a Ford Escort driven by Don Michael White of Jessup, said Pfc. Denise Walk, a police spokeswoman.

White, 51, of the 8600 block of Pine Tree Drive never saw the pedestrian coming, officials said, and his vehicle hit Moore without White having a chance to brake.

Moore died at the scene. White was not injured.

Walk said officers determined White was not speeding and had not been drinking. She said they are waiting for toxicology results on Moore.

A preliminary police investigation indicates pedestrian error was the accident's cause.
