Carrie M. Walter, 88, registered nurse

Carrie M. Walter, a retired registered nurse, died of a heart attack Monday at Mariner Health of Greater Laurel. She was 88 and a longtime Laurel resident.

She was born Carrie Mae Etta Bloom and raised in Hagerstown. After graduating from high school, she studied nursing at Washington County Hospital.

She began working at the Warren Clinic in Laurel in 1940, and later at what is now Laurel Regional Hospital. She retired in 1975.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. tomorrow at Donaldson Funeral Home, 313 Talbott Ave., Laurel.

Surviving are her husband of 55 years, George W. Walter; two sons, Edwin Kearton of Dallas and John Walter of Laurel; three daughters, Nancy Webster of Auburn, Ala., Vicki Clem of Westminster and Ann Quigg of Fulton, Howard County; 16 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. Another son, Donald Kearton, died in 1985.
