Thumbs up: Ray Lewis continued his tradition of popping one of the backup running backs early in training camp, knocking Chester Taylor off his feet in the morning session. Lewis ran his mouth throughout the practice and the team seemed to respond. ... Jeff Blake also had a number of impressive throws, including a 45-yarder to Brandon Stokley.

Thumbs down: Offensive lineman Mike Collins didn't put up much of a fight against defensive tackle Kelly Gregg during a mid-practice skirmish.

Quotable: "Hopefully, around here it won't snow until December or January. In Minnesota, you can expect it in October sometimes." Receiver Ron Johnson on the differences between Maryland and Minnesota, where he played in college.

Injuries: Linebacker Peter Boulware (ankle) and end Michael McCrary (knee) did not practice and are on the physically unable to perform list. Running back Taylor left practice early with an ankle injury.

Today's schedule: Full-squad practice from 8:45 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Countdown to season opener: 39 days.
