John Jeffrey White, 54, Social Security manager

John Jeffrey White, a facilities manager for the Social Security Administration, died Friday of pancreatic cancer at Gilchrist Center for Hospice Care in Towson. He was 54 and lived in Sykesville.

Born in Baltimore, Mr. White grew up in Pikesville. He was a 1969 graduate of Milford Mill High School, earned an associate's degree from Catonsville Community College in 1972, and graduated from the University of Maryland with a degree in industrial management in 1974.

From 1969 until 1986, Mr. White worked for the General Services Administration. He was a facilities manager at Social Security from 1986 until his illness left him unable to work.

Mr. White was a member of the National Guard from 1970 to 1976. He enjoyed boating, fishing, bicycling, and water and alpine skiing.

At his death, he was engaged to Mary M. Thamert of Sykesville.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. tomorrow at St. John's Episcopal Church, 9120 Frederick Road, Ellicott City.

In addition to his fiancee, survivors include two sons, Brandon White of Ellicott City and Daniel White of Daytona Beach, Fla., and two sisters, Judith White Anacker-Maas and Susan Hopkins Joslin, both of Ellicott City.
