Harry M. Youngquist, a retired sheet-metal worker, died Monday of complications of diabetes at his Millersville home. He was 85.

Mr. Youngquist was born and raised in Bridgeport, Conn., where he graduated from high school. During World War II, he enlisted in the Army and served in the South Pacific. He was discharged as a sergeant when the war ended.

Mr. Youngquist was a sheet-metal worker for Pearce & Kerr in Baltimore for 20 years. He retired in 1979.

He was an avid reader and enjoyed fishing.

Mr. Youngquist is survived by his wife of 56 years, the former Mary Louise Ditty; four sons, Robert Youngquist of Gambrills, Ray Youngquist of Baltimore, Richard Youngquist of Baltimore Highlands and Harry L. Youngquist of Millersville; two daughters, Sandra Youngquist Quick of Severn and Peggy Youngquist of Brooklyn Park; a sister, Shirley Youngquist Roehrich of Connecticut; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
